I was blessed to get an appointment with Joanne. She is awesome, professional, authentic and sweet! I got a great hair cut but what I appreciated was that she took time to learn about my needs, discussed my life style and then took care of my hair issues. She gave expert advice, I learned a few things and enjoyed everything about the experience!

Mai is amazing. Very flexible with walk ins and regulars. I needed my grays covered and she chose an excellent complimenting color. I look like I lost 10 years, yay. The salon is between UH and Waikiki, super convenient. Good vibes and clientele. I will be back. Highly recommend Mai for your hair needs.

Lots of physical media available, both American and Japanese. Prices were very reasonable especially for music discs that were clearly unopened.
For those who connect anime figures, keychains, and so on, there were many options to go through from many different series. As someone from the mainland, this is the kind of shop that we need over here.

This bookstore encourages you to leave your shose by the door, has seating pillows spread across the floors, and creaks like a ship of old wood and memories.
Their author and speaker’s series are amazing. We attended the La Ku'oko'a celebration of Diplomacy, Unity, and Self-Determination on November 28 - honoring the 1843 recognition of the Hawaiian Kingdom by several Western Nations.

The shop and Bess Press are legendary. So many amazing titles have been produced throughout the years! Excellent Hawaiian Culture books, amongst other topics. The only thing is, parking sucks unless you use the big municipal lot across the street (no stars deducted as this isn't their fault...it's the reality of Kaimuki)

Fantastic Dining Experience at Vintage Books
We had an outstanding dinner at Vintage Books and will definitely be back. Every dish we ordered was excellent. The lamb ribs were incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the island kampachi was fresh, light, and beautifully prepared. The Hauʻula tomatoes were another standout—simple, fresh, and full of local flavor.
Dessert was absolutely phenomenal. The gelato, tiramisu, and especially the crème brûlée were all exceptional—the crème brûlée in particular was to die for.
The ambience was classy yet comfortable, making it a great spot for a relaxed but upscale dinner. Our server Nikki was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and professional. The management team even stopped by our table several times to check in and make sure everything was perfect, which really shows how much they care about the guest experience.
A nice bonus: they validated our parking in the garage below the building, which made the evening even easier.

Our favorite bookstore—and the only one of its kind on the island! The staff is fantastic: friendly, helpful, and always willing to go the extra mile. We’re members, so we enjoy our discounts and treats, and we love spending time here with a coffee while doing a quick read. The Starbucks team inside is also super friendly.
Only good things to say about this place—thank you, everyone, for making it such a welcoming spot!

Been coming to John K for years and I won’t let anyone else touch my hair. He already knows exactly how I like my cut and never misses. The shop is always welcoming, great vibes, solid staff, and the complimentary drinks are a nice touch. If you want consistency and someone who actually remembers how you like your hair cut, John K is the guy. Highly recommend.
