I needed to make multiple sets of keys and first tried one of those self-serve machines at a mass chain hardware store 👀. Unfortunately, it could only copy one of my four keys, and I still ended up paying about $20. I still needed the rest copied, so I looked up local locksmiths and found Chicago Locksmith—and I’m so glad I did.
I called ahead to confirm they offered same-day apartment key copying (they do!) and that they were open on a Sunday (they are!). I made the drive over, found parking nearby—$3.50 for 12 hours in the back, which was a bit of a bummer but not the shop’s fault—and headed inside.
I requested four copies of three different keys, and they were quick, efficient, and super easy to work with. I also grabbed some key rings and label tags while I was there. Best of all, the total cost was under $45, which felt very reasonable for the amount of keys I needed.
