Between my quest to visit bookshops in Arizona, combined with it being Black History Month, I headed to the black-owned Grassrootz bookshop.
It's a small shop but full of energy and culture, felt even in the quiet opening hour on a Friday. I wasn't looking for anything in particular other than to support an independently owned business. I looked through the cute children's corner, the cookbooks, history, music, and more. The book that caught my eye and that I ended up purchasing: When Broadway was Black. They also have a seed library, art to purchase, and more.
Grassroots is located in downtown Phoenix and is not only a bookstore but a juice bar. Unfortunately, I was there early, and the food and drink window was not open at the time, but it's just a good excuse to return. They offer smoothies, fresh juices, coffee, and tea. The employees coming in were jovial and went out of their way to greet me across the room.
