I’ve had a really solid experience at The Refinery overall. The gym is well kept, clean, and the staff does a good job maintaining the space. The equipment selection is decent and more than enough to get quality workouts in when it’s not busy.
That said, it’s definitely more geared toward classes and training than true open gym access. I was an open gym-only member, and the open gym area is pretty small, especially during busier times. The biggest drawback for me was the schedule, the hours just aren’t very conducive for the post-work crowd. Early mornings used to work for me, but I can’t do that anymore, so it became harder to justify.
One standout is the recovery room, it’s honestly awesome and a major value add. The only issue is the massage chairs tend to break a lot.
Overall, I’m not canceling out of protest or because of any bad experience. I just need something that fits my current lifestyle and schedule better. If you’re in the upper westside area, it’s definitely the best o
