Hakko Ryu Jujutsu comes from the Japanese language meaning "The style of the Eighth Light." In the color spectrum, violet is the eighth light, or the weakest color of light. It was said by Okuyama that the pathway of least resistance would always overcome strength. Therefore, schools of Hakko Ryu Jujutsu exercise strategies that avoid conflict as much as possible, and employ techniques that do not use strength, but instead use techniques that work against the body's natural motions and movements to take down the opponent.
Ryushin Jigen Ryu Iai is a small ancient style originally from Kyushu. Training involves solo kata, partner kata and various kihon waza affiliated with the style. RJR is unusual in its use of a smaller, lighter-weight sword and many one-handed techniques. Current Headmaster Kunikazu Yahagi of the Seiseikan Dojo in Tokyo guides our training in this style. Established in 2004. We are proud of our Martial Arts lineage and can say that we are one of the very few American Jujutsu dojos that that teach Daito Ryu Aikijutsu, Hakko Ryu Jujutsu and Yoshitsune Jujutsu. We do not blend these arts, but teach them exactly as taught to us by our teachers. Each art has it specific principles that make it unique and are thrilled to be able to share them with our dedicaed students.
Our school is conveniently located in the NYC metro area and have students that travel up to 50 miles to train with us on a regular basis.
We maintain close, active relationship with our USA based teachers and our Japanese Headmasters. We also travel to Japan on a regular basis to continue our training.
Our Sword style is Ryushin Jigen Ryu Iai that has roots back into historical Japan. We maintain a close, active relationship with the current Headmaster who is located in Tokyo, Japan. He recently visited with us to conduce a weeklong series of seminars.
