Specialties: SleepWell has two separate specialties, which at times are combined:
1. Sleep Disorders: diagnosis and treatment. Insomnia, including difficulty getting to sleep, difficulty STAYING asleep, waking up too early in the morning, sleep that just doesn't provide refreshment.. Disorders of Excessive Daytime sleepiness such as Narcolepsy, Obstructive sleep apnea. Circadian rhythm disorders such as "night owl syndrome", "jet lag", shift work difficulties. I am a member of the Medical Advisory Board of Narcolepsy Network and have a particular interest in young people who have just been diagnosed with this neurological disorder that has such an impact on them.
2. Psychotherapy. Across the age span from age 12 on. .My mission as a therapist is to help you with what YOU tell me you need help with Particular areas of expertise are: anxiety and depression; women's issues; helping people negotiate transitions in their lives; adolescent social, family and school issues; transitional issues Established in 1990. I chose to locate SleepWell in a homey private practice setting rather than in an office building. Allows truly personal attention to each patient.
The sleep disorders component arose from my having been the director of a Sleep-Wake Disorders Center in a hospital setting -- proudly, only the second such center in New England to have been nationally accredited. Transition to a private practice allowed a great deal more flexibility. Most importantly, whereas the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center was a diagnostic facility, in the private practice setting I was also able to follow through with direct treatment!
And even the sleep disorders component of the practice has a history! I had been doing sleep and circadian rhythm research, and found myself wanting to apply that research to helping people with difficulties.
The psychotherapy component of the practice has always been in a private practice setting. I have been a licensed psychologist for decades.
