The instructors such as Joe, Sheldon, Colleen among others are engaged, approachable and very talented. Our son feels comfortable and confident whenever he is with his SOR peers. School of Rock Chicago West is the absolute greatest thing that has ever happened to my daughter. The staff, teachers, and students have collectively cultivated a culture built on a foundation of camaraderie, drive, discipline, talent, and passion. All of the students are beyond fortunate to be here, participate as formed bands, build lifetime friendships, and learn fundamental relationship, musical, and communicative skills they could not achieve anywhere else. I highly recommend School of Rock Chicago West to any family in Chicago with a child who is interested in music, regardless of age or skill level. My teenager has been a student at the school for about 18 months, and the experience has been a truly rewarding one for her on many levels, both musically and beyond. The opportunity for her to take the stage and perform live has proven to be a tremendous confidence builder -- one that the school prepares all of its students well for. The staff members are energetic, fun, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. They are truly invested in helping kids of all ages find their inner rock star, and then guiding them forward in a constructive manner with the overarching goal of steadily and continuously improving their craft. School of Rock Chicago West has become a second home to my daughter. She always looks forward to her individual and group lessons, and to the camaraderie of being part of a band. Our son has been with School of Rock Chicago West for several years, and it’s been amazing to watch him grow — not just as a musician, but as a person. The teachers are awesome and really care about helping kids improve while having fun. He’s learned responsibility through rehearsals and performances, and being part of a band has taught him what it means to be a good teammate. The first time I saw a group of School of Rock kids jamming was at a street fest. They were having the time of their lives—and they were impressively talented. One kid shredded guitar for the first song, then jumped on drums for the next. Another took the mic as lead singer for one song, then became a keyboard extraordinaire on another. When they weren’t playing, they were dancing, singing along, and cheering each other on. Interchangeable little musicians, radiating pure positive energy. I remember thinking, Oh goodness… how do I get my daughter involved in this unbelievable extracurricular? So we walked into School of Rock Chicago—and we haven’t looked back. Fast forward a couple of years, and now I’m walking down Damen with my daughter, guitar slung over her shoulder, heading to see her crew perform at Subterranean, Chop Shop, and the Empty Bottle. We have been part of School of Rock for two and a half years and have had a phenomenal experience. Our son had expressed interest in the drums, and we were attracted to SOR due to the structure of the program. After our initial lesson, our son enjoyed the experience, and it has been great ever since. Starting with weekly lessons, he developed a strong relationship with his teachers and progressed through the program. The staff are always supportive of his success and communicate further opportunities for improvement. From progressing to Rock 101 to now playing with the SOR band, we could not ask for a more pleasant experience. He is happy, loves music from different genres, and has enjoyed performing in front of live audiences! Strongly recommend SOR if your child has expressed an interest in music. This is a great program that can definitely help them develop their musical skills and an appreciation of music.
