Patrick Ahearn FAIA specializes in historically motivated architecture and interior design. Over the past 42 years, his volume of finely crafted and detailed residential work spans a multitude of classic styles of architecture from City Town Houses to Island Homes. With offices in both the Historic Back Bay neighborhood of Boston and on the island of Martha's Vineyard, these environments provide a rich and fertile background for the creation of classical timeless architecture, appropriate and in scale to each locale.
The firm's work covers a broad spectrum of projects in the United States including master planning, new construction, historic renovation and restoration. To each of his projects, Mr. Ahearn and his team of architects and designers bring a highly educated and schooled knowledge of classic architecture coupled with a keen sense of how people live today, which in turn produces homes that are timeless and responsive to the needs of today's lifestyles. Established in 1978. Ahearn learned early in his career that good design has the power to improve people's lives and that understanding the past is crucial to creating the future while working for Boston firms on adaptive-reuse and urban design projects, including the revitalization of Faneuil Hall. Boston's then dilapidated Back Bay inspired Patrick to open his first office where he initiated the condo conversion movement, revitalized Newbury Street, and renovated landmark hotels on the east coast.
In the late 1980s, Ahearn bought his first home in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard and since then he has dedicated his life to preserving and enhancing the natural beauty and rich history of the island. He has completed over 200 projects on island, 160 of them in Edgartown Village alone including the Atlantic and the Boathouse. Today, Ahearn oversees a firm of 12 designers working in studios in Boston's Back Bay and in Edgartown, on Martha's Vineyard. He has been featured in numerous magazines and on HGTV.see more
