Specialties: Dr. Chynn had the older cutting LASIK procedure on his left eye, which left him with dry eyes and night glare, which are the most common problems after LASIK. That's why he got the newer, safer, non-cutting LASEK in his right eye, so that's why he doesn't have dry eyes or night glare in this eye.
LASEK if safer for everyone because it avoids cutting into the cornea, and is the only procedure that is safe for people with thin corneas and high prescriptions.
Dr. Chynn has degrees from Dartmouth, Columbia, Harvard, Emory, and NYU, & is not only the only laser vision correction surgeon in NYC to get lasered himself (the others are wearing contacts), he's the only one who is in MENSA, which certifies geniuses, and has been featured in more media than any other laser surgeon in NY, including on CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, Discovery Channel, USA Today, Time Magazine, the Wall St Journal, and the NY Times Established in 1997. Dr. Chynn was the FIRST eye MD in NY to get LASIK (way back in 1999), but was disappointed that it caused some dry eyes & night glare, which his LASIK patients also complained about.
He tried to switch to PRK, which didn't cause these side effects, but was very painful with prolonged healing, so he gave up on that.
In 2004, after performing 5,000 LASIKs and 1.000 PRKs, he transformed his entire practice to Park Avenue LASEK, and started performing ONLY the more advanced, non-cutting LASEK procedure, which he had helped invent when he was an Instructor at Harvard
LASEK provides the best of both worlds: the better safety of a non-cutting procedure like PRK, preventing dry eyes & night glare, plus the rapid, pain-free recovery of LASIK
