Specialties: Located in picturesque Midcoast Maine the Owls Head Transportation Museum is a celebration of transportation history focused on the conservation of pioneer era vehicles. The museum features an operating collection an antique cars, planes, motorcycles and engines, as well as ever-changing featured exhibits and displays. Our world-class permanent collection includes a full scale replica of the Wright Brothers 1903 Kitty Hawk Flyer, a 1907 Renault Vanderbilt Racer, a 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom once owned by Clara Bow, the last remaining Pitcairn PA-7 on the FAA registry, and much more. Additionally the museum hosts more than a dozen events annually including vintage car and motorcycle meets, an aerobatic airshow and the Annual New England Auto Auction. We offer numerous educational opportunities, talks and seminars for the whole family. Our outdoor events include demonstrations of examples from the collection, free Model T rides, family activities and more. Established in 1976. The Owls Head Transportation Museum has one of the finest collections of pioneer-era aircraft and automobiles in the world. More than 100 historic aircraft, automobiles, bicycles, carriages and engines are on permanent display. The Aircraft Collection contains replicas and originals representing the first century of flight, from Cayley's unmanned glider (1804) to the legendary Curtiss Jenny of the barnstorming era. An outstanding collection of automobiles spans the late 19th Century and early 20th century, from our recently refurbished 1908 Stanley K Semi-Racer to a 1935 Stout Scarab (called the world's first mini-van, one of only six ever made). With an on-site ground vehicle restoration workshop and an aircraft restoration hangar, the Museum proudly operates approximately 90 percent of the vehicles in our collection.
