Established in 1877. The Mattatuck Museum is an art and regional history museum on the Green in downtown Waterbury, Connecticut. Originally founded as a historical society in 1877, the Museum opened its first display hall in 1912 and has been collecting and exhibiting American art and cultural history ever since.
The collections at The MATT span the history of American art from the colonial era to the present day with special strengths in Naugatuck Valley history and Connecticut artists, as well as artists from around the world representing the diversity of our community. Recently, the Mattatuck underwent a $9 million renovation project to reimagine the Museum while continuing to be a welcoming, inclusive, and enriching community anchor. The design for the "new" Mattatuck Museum enhances public access, educational programming, collections storage, and exhibitions.
