We carry a beautiful women's clothing collection as well. The latest addition to our "Marketplace" is a new store name and footwear! Stop in to see all that's new. We are a one of kind destination, only 5 miles from downtown Albany on Columbia Tpk (9 & 20) in East Greenbush. Housed in a civil war era church, the building itself has a great feeling about it. The staff will be friendly and helpful when you come in and the store kitty will accept any and all compliments on her charm or beauty, she is a cat after all. We offer free gift wrap while you wait by the wood stove. We hope to see you soon. If you are one of our many regulars, we thank you and ask you to take a moment to give a review. Established in 1979. The Sweater Venture was born out of an interest in learning about and appreciating the customs, cultures and values of societies different from mine in far away corners of the world.
I work in Ecuador, Bolivia, Nepal among other destinations regularly where I work in cooperation with knitters, yarn dyers, yarn spinners, button producers and sweater finishers to create the collections in all the many colors, cuts, fibers and models we offer. It also means always paying fair wages and promoting healthy, safe working conditions. The pieces we produce and market are not made in sweatshops or by children or even in factories. Most of the knitting is done in the home on a "cottage industry" basis. Paying our knitters well for all of these years has contributed to tremendous economic development in many of the communities in which we work. Your support allows us to continue that work and is very much appreciated.
