Specialties: Leaving their high-tech lives behind in San Francisco, Dusty and Steve moved to Portland in 2002. From the moment they laid eyes on Lion and the Rose Victorian Guest House, they knew this historic home with its luscious garden court, grand dining area, and eight charming guest rooms was meant to be shared with others. Authentically vintage yet up to date, every room is air conditioned and equipped with telephones, cable TV, printers, and internet access. These master hosts are delighted to share their mansion and the city's natural beauty with you. Established in 1906. Experience a bygone era of comfort and grace. This majestic 1906 Queen Anne mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, transports you to another time. The eight guest rooms (all with private baths) are each unique and emanate Victorian charm. Historic yet up to date, the rooms are air conditioned and equipped with telephones, cable TV, and high-speed wireless internet access. The house was built in 1905 by Gustav and August Freiwald. Gustav was the owner of the Star Brewery and St. Elmo's Hotel in Vancouver, WA. Gustav's descendants owned the house until 1938. The house was sold and for over 50 years it was essentially a boarding house. In 1992, the owners prior to us purchased, renovated, and decorated the house and licensed it as a B&B. We came along eight years ago as high-tech refugees from San Francisco. We came during the last recession in search of honest labor. We think Gustav and Augusta would be proud to see their so lovingly restored house today.
