Specialties: Guided Alaskan botanical gardens and rainforest tours on board covered shuttles through lush surroundings on your way to spectacular panoramic views of Juneau, Alaska! Small groups tours offered on 18 or 6 passenger vehicles gives you the easiest access to the rainforest in the Tongass National Forest. The stunning botanical gardens feature the unique Flower Towers, named in 2012 as the "Most Interesting Landmark in America" according to a Reader's Digest poll. Join a Cruise Shore Excursion from our many partners, or tour individually. Reservation encouraged but walk-in visitors are accepted. Tours depart within 10-15 minutes of your arrival. Or grab a map of the gardens and tour on your own with a self-guided stroll through the colorful gardens and into the naturally rugged Tongass National Forest. Established in 1998. Welcome to Glacier Gardens! One man's vision for a stream reclamation project is a uniquely designed botanical garden nestled in the midst of the mighty Tongass National Forest. In 1994, Steve and Cindy Bowhay purchased 6.5 acres from the "Smith Family" with the intent of expanding their nursery and landscaping business, The Yard Doctor, by building an additional greenhouse. Ten years earlier in 1984 a land slide devastated the small stream on the property from the 1,500 ft. elevation down on Heintzelman Ridge. You are able to see the scars from the landslide looking up towards Thunder Mountain above the Glacier Gardens location. After purchasing the additional acreage in 1996, the couple constructed a series of pathways through the rainforest and opened Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure in 1998. Since then the pathways have extended to 2 miles with a portion of the tour taking place within the Tongass National Forest.
