Specialties: William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody knew a thing or two about how the Spirit of the American West originated from the very landscape itself. From his life experiences to his Wild West show, he was a man completely captivated by the West...and, since 1927, that same spirit is alive and well within collections of western art, Plains Indian culture, the natural science of Yellowstone, Buffalo Bill and western history, and firearms at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming.
Because of our location in northwest Wyoming--only 50 miles from Yellowstone National Park's East Entrance--we're uniquely qualified to tell the stories of the American West in a way that no other museum in the world can. In this authentic western town founded by Buffalo Bill, we're surrounded by the majesty of the Greater Yellowstone region and are privy to the history and myths of the Old West, the vibrant life of the New West, and the living cultures of Plains Indian peoples. Established in 1927. The complex of five museums has grown since 1927.
