Specialties: Buffalo Arts Studio is a not-for-profit arts organization whose mission is to provide affordable studio space and exposure for visual artists while creating community cultural connections through exhibitions, public art, and educational programs. We offer art classes for youth and adults, hold special events like Trimania and Plate and Pasta in addition to Fourth Friday events every month, and showcase work by contemporary local and regional artists in our gallery exhibitions. Our artists' open studios are also open for visitors during business hours. Established in 1991. Buffalo Arts Studio was established in 1991 by local artist Joanna Angie. Her goal for the organization was to provide affordable studio space and valuable exposure for artists while also offering arts education and public art for the entire community. Angie worked directly with Canadian developers Elgin Wolfe and John Rae, who had successfully used the "arts first" approach in Toronto, to make Buffalo Arts Studio one of his first major tenants in the recently rehabilitated vacant industrial complex at 2495 Main Street. Located on Buffalo's east side, BAS and the re-named Tri-Main Center helped to enrich this previously underserved area by developing an exciting cultural environment that benefited the neighborhood and surrounding areas. After becoming incorporated, BAS began renting low-cost studios for artists to use as work and exhibition space. The larger exhibition program was developed in 1992, and the education program began in 1998.
