We offer carving classes and demonstrations, bird-focused programs for children and adults, and self-guided explorations of the Museum, our trails, and our bird-friendly gardens. We have traveling exhibits and programs for libraries and community groups; we welcome tours and field trips; and we introduce visitors to live birds through our viewing windows (and on our webcam). ¶
Open by appointment Nov 1 - April 30 (Winter hours) .
Or in May - October, you can drop Wednesday - Sunday, between 10 and 4. Established in 1987. Bob Spear's collection and intention finally overgrew his living room. He and his partner converted the next-door dairy barn into a workshop and Museum, which opened in 1987. From there, we've expanded to two stories, four galleries, and several community spaces where we host and exhibit artists, poets, photographers, carvers, and presentations. ¶
Our 100 or so acres are now under a variety of management strategies, from "Recovering" land (left to rewild itself) to maintaining "Early Successional" habitat (which helps preserve biodiversity). There are miles of trails to explore, with a bird blind, a pond, and a walk-in tree house too.
