The name Arthur Murray is synonymous with "ballroom dance instructor" -- the famed dancer began teaching in New York at the Grand Palace in 1912. A decade later, he packaged his tried-and-true method of teaching dance and opened his first dance school. People came from all around to take Arthur Murray dance lessons and, soon, there was demand for more schools in the region.
By 1940, when the topic of ballroom dancing came up, the name Arthur Murray Dance Centers was sure to follow. Arthur Murray began to franchise his popular dance center, promising experienced dance instructors who were expert in his patented step-by-step dance teaching methods.
Everyone wanted to get in on the fun of what people called "social dancing." So the Arthur Murray Dance Centers quickly introduced programs to teach a variety of social dances. And the many benefits of dance became quickly well-known!
