Public Health is hiring a seasonal intern to assist with Substance Abuse Prevention initiatives in Bismarck and Burleigh County. Work will focus on prevention of underage drinking and marijuana use through community outreach efforts. Activities may include participation in health education webinars, trainings and/or community outreach events, coordinating community health events and services, giving presentations, developing public health educational materials and resources. Skills in Microsoft programs: Word, Outlook, Power point, and Excel.

This internship is a seasonal position working up to 40 hours per week. Drug Free Communities grant funding will end Sept. 29, 2025. Typical work days/hours for this position would be Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with the option of a flexible schedule based on program activities and events. Occasionally, there may be circumstances, activities, and/or events that require work outside of normal business hours and on weekends.

Examples of Duties

Assist public health staff working in the field including clinical, office and/or community setting.
Assist with department specific projects and activities.
Assist with research, collection and analysis of data.
Promote and support current public health activities.
Build and maintain good relationships with community partners.
Coordinate, conduct and participate in outreach events and activities for public health programs.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Must be currently enrolled as a student in a college or university working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Epidemiology or related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle for use on duty
