Job Description The Chronicle Heritage is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Accountant who will be responsible for the full cycle of accounting duties. We are looking for a Senior Accountant to lead the general ledger function and assist the Controller in developing internal controls and accounting policies and procedures. The Senior Accountant will review Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) transactions, process journal entries, and monitor compliance with defined policies and procedures. Work will be geared to ensure an accurate and timely monthly close schedule that will culminate in successfully preparing our company for its annual audit and tax preparation. The successful candidate should have in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role requires a hands-on approach and experience working cross-functionally across the accounting department, with a desire to create relationships beyond the accounting department to help our business continue its growth. Hire Type: Full-time (salaried) Schedule: 40 hours, Monday–Friday (flexible schedule) Location: Remote: tethered to site, Onsite – Phoenix, AZ (Headquarters) and work from home office in Arizona Responsibilities
  • Assist in the monthly close process, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately according to timeline
  • Prepare various balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review daily deposits to ensure all payments are completed timely and accurately
  • Review billings for adherence to contracted terms
  • Review AP registers to ensure accurate coding and period placement
  • Analyze, provide insight, and answer ad hoc questions regarding financial results
  • Support the tracking of financial and operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Assist Controller by documenting, monitoring, and updating accounting policies
  • Regular monitoring and tracking of projects and WIP
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems
  • Assist in internal and external audits
  • Assist in compliance with accounting and tax regulations as well as reporting for government clients
  • Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances
  • Prepare financial statements, journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
  • Assist with budget preparation and preparing the monthly budget variance analyses
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed assets schedules
  • Assist with initial internal control evaluations
  • Supervise accounting staff
  • Expertise in job costing to manage and analyze project costs, ensuring accurate financial reporting and budget adherence
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Accounting or finance degree
  • 3+ years of experience as a Staff Accountant or similar role
  • 3+ years of experience with general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions
  • Knowledge of and working experience using Sage Intacct
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project).
Preferred Skills
  • BA in accounting or finance
  • Experience using Sage Intacct
  • Experience in a project and/or professional services environment
  • ERP experience preferred
  • Progressive knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and legislation
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Willingness to learn and take on more
  • Ability to operate in a distributed organizational setting
Physical And Mental Requirements And Work Environment
  • Vision is required to observe environmental phenomena and record and translate observations into text (either keyboard entry on a computer or dictation and audio translation of recording to Standard English scientific text).
  • Mental requirements include ability to organize one’s own work or that of crew members; ability to recognize and observe scientific data and analyze data as well as ability to perform calculations. Must also be able to observe social and professional interactions and respond appropriately.
  • Some work is performed primarily in an indoor environment and requires sustained sitting and use of fingers, hands, and arms to operate a computer and perform keyboard entry of data or document preparation (or equivalent with accommodation). Must also be able to operation standard office equipment (phone, copy machine, FAX machine, etc.)
