POSITION OBJECTIVE

The City of Fridley is seeking enthusiastic, friendly and highly motivated applicants for seasonal recreational youth workers. This position is geared towards those who enjoy working with kids or in the outdoors, have a special skill to teach, or have experience or a desire to instruct youth. This position will support and implement the goals, objectives, and planned activities working under the general supervision of the Recreation department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Recreation Program Instructor - $14
This position is responsible for ensuring participants receive a quality recreational experience in a safe environment within the City of Fridley’s recreation programming for youth ages 3-12.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Instructing prepared lesson plans.
  2. Playing and interacting with children.
  3. Chaperoning off-site field trips and assisting with Special Events.
  4. Communicating regularly with parents/guardians.
  5. Youth instruction includes but is not limited to: Sports, Arts/Crafts, Games, etc.
  6. This is an active position that involves work in varying conditions: outdoors in parks, indoor classrooms/gym, and off-site field trip locations.

Recreation Program Lead Instructor - $16
This position is responsible for creating and implementing exciting classes for a variety of programs for all ages. Classes range from Arts/Crafts, Sports/Games and Science/Enrichment. Examples of work performed include: creating and executing lesson plans, teaching and interacting with children, and leading program instructors.

Essential Job Funtions
  1. Creates and executes lesson plans for Recreation Programs.
  2. Teaches and interacts with participants.
  3. Leads program instructors.
  4. Chaperones off-site field trips.
  5. Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, participants, and the public.
  6. Documents any incidents/accidents, maintenance issues, and/or complaints and reports them immediately to their supervisor.


Recreation Facility Monitor - $16

This position is responsible for ensuring participants receive a quality recreational experience in a safe environment within the City of Fridley’s gym and warming house programming. Facility Monitors must be able to establish and maintain tactful and effective working relationships with co-workers, program participants, caregivers, and the public.


Essential Job Functions
  1. Opens and closes building securely.
  2. Sets up and takes down equipment.
  3. Processes transactions related to programming within facility.
  4. Assists with programs or special events.
  5. Greets and answers patron’s questions.
  6. Monitor building to provide support and assist with troubleshooting any issues and concerns.


Recreation Special Events - $16
Special event staff support a variety of events throughout the year. For example, Winterfest, Environmental Fun Fair, Concert Series, Youth Parties, and more.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Monitors event to provide support and assist with troubleshooting any issues and concerns.
  2. Special Event duties may include set-up/clean-up, communication with participants, instructors/contractors, and the public, taking of tickets/attendance, etc.
  3. Leads other seasonal staff in special event duties.


Recreation League Scorekeeper - $16

This position will be responsible for the scorekeeping, record keeping, and onsite organization of the Fridley adult leagues, primarily Fridley Men’s Basketball Leagues.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Tracks scores for various sports leagues.
  2. Works with referees and teams to collect rosters, track penalties, report scores and record league information.
  3. Monitors parks/fields/courts to provide support and assist with troubleshooting any issues and concerns.
  4. Documents any incidents/accidents, maintenance issues and/or complaints and reports them immediately to their supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Recreation Program Instructor
Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be age 15+
  • Skilled in English both orally and in written communication.
  • Work effectively with people and exhibit responsible judgment in different situations.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and organized.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior childcare experience (volunteer or paid) preferred
  • Knowledge of basic sports skills and/or children’s activities

Recreation Lead Instructor
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be age 16
  • Skilled in English both orally and in written communication.
  • Work effectively with people and exhibit responsible judgment in different situations.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and organized.
Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be age 16+

  • Operate registration software at a basic level.
  • Ability to maintain and report accurate records.
  • Ability to track program participants and equipment use.

Recreation League Scorekeeper
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be age 16+
  • Skilled in English both orally and in written communication.
  • Work effectively with people and exhibit responsible judgment in different situations.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and organized.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience operating electronic scoreboards at a basic level.
  • Ability to maintain and report accurate records such as scores to league coordinator.
  • Ability to track program participants and equipment use.
  • Basic sports knowledge and the ability to understand basic sport rules.
