Job Description
About the position
Responsible to work in either maintenance or construction crews, repairing, laying out and installing plumbing fixtures, and control equipment with applicable codes.
Responsibilities
• Repair, layout and install plumbing fixtures, and control equipment with applicable codes.
• Install and maintain HVAC equipment.
• Read and follow schematics, diagrams or following all blueprints.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, groove, press, assemble and install plumbing devices inside and outside of buildings or structures.
• Safe use of hand and power tools such as (but not limited to) hammers, pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, pipe threaders, hacksaws, drills, sanders and utility knives.
• Must be able to solder copper fittings using a heat source such as propone or MAP gas.
• Must be familiar with installation and maintenance of boilers, furnaces and other heating system components.
• Familiar with lockout/tagout procedures.
• Work will require heavy digging.
• Perform all other duties deemed as Plumbers work by the Chief Engineer, Engineering Department.
Requirements
• A four year high school diploma; or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accredited organization; or Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC).
• Prior plumbing experience or experience as an apprentice.
• Ability to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to understand/ plumbing principles, read schematics and troubleshoot problems.
• Must have mechanical ability to repair and install plumbing components.
• Must be able to use power tools.
• Must be familiar with the following systems: drainage, water, heating, pumping, sheet metal.
• Must have a valid Driver's License.
Nice-to-haves
• Trade school, vocational training in the plumbing field or NYC plumbing license.
• Experience in gas and oil burner servicing.
• Back-flow prevention certification.
• FDNY Certifications: \tF60, G60 and A35.
• Experience installing and repairing fire suppression systems.
• OSHA 30 or equivalent.
