Job Description

Assists the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by performing many of the technical and clerical functions associated with the preparation, packaging, distribution, and administration of drugs. These duties will be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Performs other duties as requested.

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance to the established FMC policies, procedures and guidelines.

  • Performs the necessary activities associated with the preparation and distribution of non-sterile compounding and repackaging using proper technique and abide by USP 795 standards [Trainees must be supervised by a Certified Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist];
  • Performs the necessary activities associated with the preparation and distribution of sterile products using proper aseptic technique and abide by USP 797 standards [Trainees only, must be supervised by a Certified Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist];
  • Performs the necessary activities associated with the preparation and distribution of hazardous drugs proper technique and abide by USP 800 standards, (excluding sterile compounding);
  • Performs the necessary activities associated with the unit dose distribution system;
  • Distribute controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains the necessary records associated with this responsibility;
  • Participates in inventory management activities including but not limited to ordering, receiving, monitoring inventory levels, outdates, and stock rotation;
  • Assists in maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, and records consistent with regulations and standards governing the practice of pharmacy;
  • Conducts and documents inspection of assigned area(s) of responsibility on monthly basis as well as maintaining a neat, clean, and safe work area;
  • Assists the pharmacist with answering phone calls and providing operational assistance within a technicians scope of practice;
  • Collaborate with other departments to maintain pharmacy and hospital operations

Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

  • [Trainee Licenses only] If the employee’s trainee license expires prior to the 12-month date of hire, the employee is expected to become a registered or certified pharmacy technician to remain compliant with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.

  • An Employer-based certification training program available.

  • Previous hospital pharmacy practice preferred.

Exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible up to 10 pounds amount of force often.
