Job Description

Assists physicians and nursing staff in the care of patients. Performs various patient care activities, including assisting with patient flow, taking vitals, giving injections, and other needs as required. Maintains stations, exam and procedure rooms. Performs various front desk and clerical duties in a medical office including such functions as complete demographic and insurance registration, charge entry, scheduling patients and/or verifying insurance information.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred
  • Ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state guidelines
  • Two to three years of related surgical experience preferred
  • APPLE COMPUTER proficiency
  • EZ Derm (EMR) knowledge is a plus
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Accurate data entry skills
  • Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization
  • CPR certification is required but may be completed upon hire

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Work mainly with general dermatology appointments with the ability to assist in Surgical procedures
  • Scribing notes
  • Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
  • Assist physician in procedures including but not limited to presenting instruments, blotting, cutting sutures and bandaging of surgical sites.
  • Discuss wound care instructions and ensure patient understanding of aftercare.
  • Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the
    exam. Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider.
  • Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to;
    urinalysis, temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
  • Administers and documents injections and other medications given.
  • Schedules patients for evaluations, re-evaluations and treatment.
