Area Journeyman Electrician, Commercial Service

Job Summary

The Area Journeyman Electrician – Commercial Service is a highly experienced commercial/industrial electrician responsible for delivering electrical service work across multiple ABM branches within Florida. A major focus of this role includes performing thermography (IR) scanning on large-scale electrical systems such as switchgear, panel boards, and power distribution equipment for ABM clients throughout the state.

This position requires deep experience working inside large commercial electrical infrastructure, including three-phase systems and high-capacity distribution equipment. The role involves regular travel within central Florida (Tampa, Orlando, Sanford, and surrounding areas) to support scheduled service tasks, IR scanning, retrofits, RTU disconnect/reconnect work, and other service needs.

Key Responsibilities

Core Electrical Responsibilities
• Perform thermography (thermal/IR) scans on electrical equipment including switchgear, panel boards, and major distribution systems at ABM client facilities.
• Safely operate inside large electrical panels and switchgear while following all safety protocols.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, testing, installation, and repairs on commercial electrical systems.
• Install conduit, wiring, fixtures, disconnects, breakers, and power supply equipment.
• Plan electrical layouts and ensure installations comply with local codes and specifications.
• Follow site drawings, labels, manuals, and written instructions to ensure accuracy and safety compliance.

Commercial Service Responsibilities
• Serve as a regional resource supporting multiple branches in a service-focused capacity.
• Perform RTU disconnect/reconnect work, minor electrical retrofits, lighting replacements, and other small-scale service projects as needed for ABM clients.
• Partner with ABM service and power teams to execute multi-site service work across Florida.
• Support the identification and resolution of service needs within large commercial and industrial environments, not residential or light commercial spaces.

Work Environment & Travel
• Travel throughout central and statewide Florida is required to support multiple ABM client facilities – company vehicle provided.
• Work primarily occurs in large logistics centers, industrial plants, and heavy commercial environments, requiring full competency with three-phase power and large-scale systems.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician in commercial or industrial electrical work.
• Valid, unexpired driver’s license.
• Journeyman Electrician license for the applicable jurisdiction.
• On-the-job training provided.

Preferred Qualifications
• 5 years of commercial/industrial electrical service experience.
• Proven experience in:
• Three-phase electrical systems
• Switchgear and large electrical panels
• High-capacity power distribution systems
• Thermography/IR scanning (highly preferred)
• Experience working in large logistics, manufacturing, or industrial facilities.
