Job Title:International Education Advisor - Part Time

Department:Buckman Center

Job Description:

The International Education Advisor reports to the Buckman Center for Global Engagement. This position serves with responsibility for study abroad/away and international students, including related processes and systems. This position is part-time (18.75 hours per week)

Required Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of professional work experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Demonstrated commitment to access and inclusion.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced Center, adapting to unpredictable changes. Ability to prioritize efficiently and with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, both on a team and independently.
  • Administrative experience with Terra Dotta or other cloud-based database product.
  • Excellent skills with standard PC/Dell and Microsoft products.
  • Commitment to professionalism and professional development.
  • Interest in continual improvement in Center processes.
  • Experience living, studying, or working outside the United States for at least 3 months post high school.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of professional work experience in international education or a closely related field. Experience working with international students.
  • Understanding of study abroad concepts and undergraduate degree requirements.
  • Administrative experience with Terra Dotta and SEVIS.
  • Experience with managing or supporting access and inclusion efforts.
  • Well-developed student-centered advising skills.
  • Strong presentation skills to groups of all sizes.
  • Masters degree.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operates as a front-line staff member with excellent situational awareness and ability to analyze situations and emergent issues, taking appropriate action.
  • Serves as a designated school official (DSO) and provides excellent international student advising and support, including appropriate understanding of immigration regulations. Serves as the primary liaison to the College community for international students.
  • Provides international student services and events. Organizes international student orientation, including summer program committee work. Effectively communicates details with all stakeholders at the College and beyond.
  • Manages international student websites, social media, and supportive software.
  • Successfully supervises the Center’s student associate for international students.
  • Stays current on regulations, best practices, and developments in international education for international and study abroad students. Demonstrates good understanding of the impact these items have on College policies and practices, recommending academic policies, procedures, and documentation as needed.
  • Manages all processes for Terra Dotta, including but not limited to: maintaining accurate student application records, maintaining Terra Dotta program subscriptions and pricing tiers, creating Rhodes’ programs and their applications within Terra Dotta, and performing data reporting on demand. Liaises successfully with other College departments which use Terra Dotta, training users. Processes student applications for acceptance decisions for the Center.
  • Manages the purchasing and invoicing of health insurance for international students; students traveling internationally on College business, including study abroad and internships; and fac/staff international travelers.
  • Supports study abroad and away advising as needed.
  • Purchases supplies and pays invoices for the Center.
  • Participates in occasional night and weekend events, taking part in all necessary aspects of planning and implementing the events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Occasional outdoor events during the day or evening. Temperature, weather conditions, lack of access to shade.
  • Occasional hours/days of moving/storing physical items in indoor and outdoor environments. Access to elevators may not be available.
