Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Burkes Mechanical is a multi-state heavy industrial contractor providing mechanical, electrical, civil construction, and fabrication services to pulp & paper, chemical, petroleum, and manufacturing facilities. Our crane rental service provides turnkey crane services across the Southeast, operating from multiple crane yards and customer facilities. Our fleet handles equipment setting, relocation, and large-scale lifts, while our certified operators deliver reliable testing, installation, and maintenance.
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in Thomasville, AL. In this role, you’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of construction vehicles and heavy industrial equipment. Work will take place at customer job sites as well as company locations, requiring strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently.
What You’ll Do
· Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs on heavy equipment
· Replace worn or damaged parts
· Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools
· Inspect and operate heavy equipment to identify defects or performance issues
· Test equipment after repairs or assembly to ensure proper function and manufacturer compliance
· Perform routine maintenance including cleaning and lubrication
· Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics
· Overhaul and test machines and equipment for optimal operating efficiency
· Repair or adjust mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
· Use diagnostic tools and computerized testing equipment
· Examine parts using precision tools such as micrometers and gauges
· Follow all OSHA and company safety standards
What We’re Looking For
· Ability to work in dusty or dirty environments
· Physical capability to stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 50 lbs.
· Physical ability to use hands, arms, and legs fully; grasp, manipulate and assemble small objects; and see and hear well (either naturally or with correction)
· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
· High School Diploma or GED required
· 2–3 years of relevant experience
· Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (CDL preferred)
· Must supply personal tools
· Willingness to travel as needed
