DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES

JOB LOCATION:
Address: 150 N. 18th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85007 ** Both in-person and teleworking (hybrid)**

This position requires the ability to work in an office environment in Phoenix at least 2 days per week

POSTING DETAILS:
- The Health Equity intern will join our team for 9-19 weeks, working 15-29 hours each week. - Start date - As soon as you’re ready we can accommodate your class schedule so that you may work during business hours. -You will need to upload a copy of your resume, transcripts and cover letter explaining how your skills are a good fit for this position, must have a current GPA standing of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. - Compensation based on education and experience.
JOB SUMMARY:
-We are seeking a talented and engaged intern who is working toward a degree and wants to develop beyond the classroom! -You would be a great fit if you have excelled in Public Health, Health Equity, psychology, social work, sociology, and gender studies coursework or if you have a particular interest in health equity, public health, public administration, and working with diverse community partners/organizations. -In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with all members of the ADHS Office of Health Equity on our mission to reduce health disparities statewide and strengthen our agencys internal capacities. Some exciting projects and initiatives include Health Equity 101 training, the Agency DEIA Plan, Prop 207 Justice Reinvestment, The Public Health Infrastructure Grant, the CDC Health Disparities Grant, and immunization/testing equity, to name a few. -You will also have the opportunity to represent the agency, and our office through attendance and participation at a number of in-person and virtual conferences, health fairs, community meetings, and events statewide. -You will be coached and mentored by the Vaccine Equity Manager, and others on the team by collaborating with them on group projects.

YOU WILL BRING THE FOLLOWING TO THE INTERNSHIP:
● Strong verbal and written communication skills. ● Knowledge of public health and health equity practice. ● Knowledge of Google Workspace, including Google Sites, Forms, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive. ● Time management, organization, planning, and problem-solving skills. ● Ability to troubleshoot and identify potential technical challenges.
YOU WILL GAIN THE FOLLOWING FROM THIS INTERNSHIP:
● Deepend understanding of Public Health, and health equity. ● In-person and virtual public health outreach and engagement strategies. ● Understanding of the importance of fostering strategic partnerships between public health and health care professionals, and community-based organizations to improve population health. ● Opportunity to attend and participate in virtual and in-person public health events, community meetings, conferences, and health fairs. ● Collaboration with a diverse team of professionals.

  • Experience in health promotion, public health, or health equity including volunteer/internship and campus-based experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.
