Job Summary

Responsible for assisting the Government Relations and/or Legal teams with research and other matters that contributes to the development and implementation of Memorial Hermann Health System’s (MHHS) federal and state government relations strategy. Monitors federal and state legislative activity and provides weekly written reports to Associate Vice President of Government Relations. Typically reports to the Associate Vice President of Government Relations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required. Must also be currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Government/Political Science, Public Affairs, Public Health, Public Administration/Public Policy or related field or a current Law student, preferably with a focus on health care Law.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Must have general working knowledge of the federal and state legislative and regulatory processes
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and presentation skills required with demonstrated ability to successfully apply in public policy advocacy
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in an ever-changing legislative and regulatory environment required
  • Must have excellent research and analytical skills with ability to interpret legislation and public policy

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Monitors federal and state legislative activity and provides weekly written reports to Associate Vice President of Government Relations.
  • Evaluates impact and risk to MHHS regarding federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Participate in trade association meetings, calls, hearings, and weekly internal meetings.
  • Manage multiple projects related to legislative and policy activity as needed.
  • Conduct research and analysis and provide reports on existing and proposed legislative and publish policy initiatives
  • Prepare issue briefs, bill summaries, testimony letters, presentations and another other appropriate communiqués relevant to advancing favorable public policy
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
