Summary

The Financial Services Representative (FSR) assists students during the financial aid application process. The FSR provides high quality service and creates a caring and supportive environment that puts the student first in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the university. Among other things, the FSR actively provides solutions to students who may need assistance as they explore their financial aid resources.


Minimum Qualifications

The Financial Services Representative must satisfy the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; and
  2. One year customer service or collections experience with proven accounting skills.

The Financial Services Representative must also pass a required background check and be in good standing on any Title IV financial aid received (e.g., not in default or overpayment).

Essential Functions

The Financial Services Representative performs the following essential functions:

  1. Processes and complete non-Title IV finance options upon student registration.
  2. Communicates with enrollment staff regarding payment arrangements for re-entry students who have an account balance.
  3. Assists military students in applying for VA and military benefits for approved programs.
  4. Collects balances on active student accounts through outbound phone calls, email, regular mail, and texting.
  5. Documents all student-related communications in the SIS.
  6. Reviews reports to ensure accurate posting of appropriate charges and payments.
  7. Updates student account information to ensure accuracy for collection reports.
  8. Participates in weekly collection report meetings.
  9. Prepares invoices for CTA, State Vocational Rehabilitation, WIA, and other funding sources.
  10. Reviews the list of non-returning students to verify that accounts are reconciled and conduct exit interviews to inform students of the financial consequences associated with withdrawing.
  11. Collects balances on accounts of withdrawn students for up to 90 days following withdrawal.
  12. Acts with the highest integrity and professionalism in performing duties and responsibilities in compliance with all university policies, procedures, and ethical standards, including those set forth in the Financial Aid Code of Conduct and the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
  13. Complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and all other applicable laws and regulations.
  14. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required Work Hours

Forty hours per week during daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Scheduled work hours may change. Overtime may be required, or permitted with prior approval.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

  1. The Financial Services Representative reports to the Director of Financial Services.
  2. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

The Financial Services Representative must be able to perform the requirements of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.


Travel

Periodic travel, including airline travel and overnight stays, may be required.
