Job Summary: Provides equipment for patient care in surgery units; demonstrates specialty skills and knowledge needed to maintain equipment system; serves as resource to staff on equipment system and procedures.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

Work Experience: 1 - 2 years related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated specialty skills and knowledge needed to maintain equipment system. Basic computer skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Provides equipment for patient care in Main surgery and Natalie surgery. Utilizes computerized BOMs to identify equipment needed for next-day surgery cases. Identifies and communicates equipment conflicts to appropriate supervisors. Assists in updating BOM equipment list as new equipment enters the system. Performs functions of lead technician in their absence. Demonstrates specialty skills and knowledge needed to maintain equipment system. Functions independently and serves as resource to staff. Assembles equipment systems and checks function to insure safe patient care. Orients new professional staff to equipment system and procedures. Documents data according to unit/hospital policy. Maintains computer reporting of malfunctioning or broken equipment to comply with Safe Medical Device Act. Tracts equipment loaned out to hospital units or other facilities. Performs maintenance and environmental activities to assure a clean and safe unit. Maintains storage system in compliance with fire/safety codes. Utilizes aseptic techniques to protect self, patient and co-workers. Perform minor repairs under the direction of hospital Biomed and Maintenance Depts. Utilizes tag-out procedure to remove equipment from clinical area. Troubleshoots equipment problems and coordinates repair with Biomedical, Engineering and Maintenance Depts. Supports unit/hospital goals through QA and Educational activities. Attends initial in-services on all new equipment systems and meets unit education standards. Accurately completes variance reports.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.

Working Relationships: Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works with internal/external customers. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
