Job Description

Under the supervision of the Township Engineer, Senior Project Engineer, or Records Manager/GIS Specialist, performs engineering support duties such as drafting, construction inspection and survey work. Reviews various plans, maintains infrastructure maps and records and assists in organizing and implementing programs and projects. $16.00 per hour. Flexible schedule through the academic year.

DUTIES

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Assists in drafting engineering plans and drawings for public improvements. Prepares drawings of both present and finalized construction projects and specifications. Assembles data, maintains records, and prepares and maintains reports as required. Maintains technical records, construction drawings, site plans and other related documents. Inspects construction projects for compliance with plans and specifications. Updates and maintains a variety of plans and other records related to Township utilities. Assists the public with accessing and reading maps and other information. Performs special projects as requested. Participates in field surveys for public improvements, such as water and sewer, pathways and sidewalks, or other public improvements. Operates survey or GPS equipment and establishes grades and measurements. Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be enrolled in an engineering or GIS related program at an accredited college or university. Must possess a valid State of Michigan Drivers License. Knowledge of surveying, construction inspection and civil engineering practices and procedures. Knowledge of public works construction methods and materials. Knowledge of computer-aided drawing, GIS, spreadsheet and word processing applications. Skill in creating maps and drawings, estimating materials needs, and maintaining records. Skill in assembling and analyzing data, and in preparing comprehensive and accurate reports. Skill in effectively communicating ideas and concepts orally and in writing. Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and related software, and the ability to master new technologies. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specification and construction standards.
