SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES (not limited to):

  1. Receives outpatient referrals and communicates with medical provider, as needed, related to desired dietary intervention services.
  2. Identifies nutrition goals relative to individual client needs. Conducts dietary intake, collects weight and height of client and calculates BMI for client chart. Charts each client’s progress throughout the treatment experience, making sure that progress notes reflect the goals within the treatment plan (calorie counts totals, nutrition assessments, summary of teaching, etc.).
  3. Utilizes Nutrition Care Practice Guidelines for outpatient services.
  4. Conducts nutrition assessments on and in collaboration with patients using appropriate best practice guidelines per specialty and as suggested by referring provider according to patient needs.
  5. Guides patients in developing nutritionally appropriate menus and meal plans.
  6. Updates and/or writes new diet handouts and educational materials as needed.
  7. Serves as a resource for community service nutrition talks and nutrition questions from the general public.
  8. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  9. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  10. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
  11. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
  12. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
  13. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
  14. Will support other related patient care dietary services as the need arises.



POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (not limited to):

  • Education:
    1. Bachelors’ degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, or Dietetics.
  • Certification/Registration:
  1. Current Certified Dietitian status for Washington State.
  2. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics registration or RD eligible.
  3. Current Washington State Food Handlers permit.
  • Experience:
  1. Previous experience in dietetics, one year clinical dietitian experience preferred.
  • Skills/Competencies:
  1. Knowledge of foods/nutrition; food preparation, production, supervisory/instructional techniques.
  2. Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department specific checklist.
  3. Critical thinking skills: Seeks resources for direction, when necessary. Performs independent problem solving. Decision-making is logical and deliberate.
  4. Performs actions that demonstrate accountability. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines. Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and appropriately.
  5. Demonstrates competency in ability to care for customers/patients across the age continuum. Must possess strong communication and problem solving skills. Integrates communications approaches such as motivational interviewing to build a rapport.
  6. Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Occasional sitting, standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
  2. Manual dexterity, light physical effort, ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. (supplies and equipment).
  3. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, clients, and the public.
  4. Good reading eyesight. Is able to see clearly 20 feet or more, to judge distance and space relationships, and to see peripherally. Visual acuity to observe patient assessment data and use manual/automated documentation tools.
