About the position The Helper - Substation Electrician position at Omaha Public Power District involves assisting electricians in the construction, maintenance, and operation of substation facilities. The role is crucial for ensuring reliable electrical service to customers and includes hands-on work with various electrical equipment and systems. Responsibilities • Assist electricians in the construction of transmission and distribution substations by installing and commissioning equipment used for power delivery. • Assist in the maintenance of transmission and distribution substations by overhauling, troubleshooting, repairing, and testing power equipment such as circuit breakers and transformers. • Assist in the safe operation of transmission and distribution equipment used for power delivery. • Transport equipment and materials to and from worksites. • Assist in the maintenance and operations of customer facilities and distribution facilities and equipment. • Complete the Substation Electrician Apprentice Program. Requirements • A two-year Associates degree in electrical theory or completion of an electrical apprenticeship program, or 4 years of work as an electrician is required. • Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months after hire. • Good mechanical aptitude is necessary. • Must be capable of progressing to Electrician, First Class. • Must be able to successfully pass background checks required for access to Offutt Air Force Base. • Reside within a 35-mile radius of the Substation and System Protection Office.
