Position Description
Classification Title: Signal Electrician
General Overview: Under supervision of Signal Technician, assists in installation, maintenance and repair of electric traffic signals and electronic systems in County, performs electrical maintenance on building systems and equipment. Performs other related duties as required. Required Qualifications Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below. Graduation from an accredited High School and experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, wiring, and controls, including electronic equipment, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principle practices, materials, and methods of the repair, maintenance, and installation of electrical and electronic equipment, wiring, and controls; the hazards and safety precautions in plant electrical work; the principles of electronics and electrical control. Ability to use and care for tools of the electrical trade; work at various heights from ladder or bucket truck; perform a variety of maintenance, repair, and installation duties on complex electrical equipment; work from sketches, plans, and diagrams; detect, locate, and correct electrical troubles in lines and controls; understand and follow oral and written instructions; read and write. (*Indicates developed after employment). Job Duties The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification. Assists in installation, maintenance and repair of electrical traffic signals and street lights. Operates bucket and ladder truck to set poles, replace bulbs, connect sources of electricity, etc. Operates concrete saw. Uses hand tools to attach and set timing control boxes, places temporary traffic control devices as necessary. Performs repairs and maintenance to signal devices and control boxes in shop, overhauls signals, rewires control boxes, replaces work parts, etc. Performs electrical maintenance on building systems, replaces security and building lights, inspects and repairs outlets, wires, electrical equipment, etc. Performs related work and completes record as required.
Work Schedule - Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Work Location - 538 E. South Street Akron, Ohio

Must possess a Class B commercial drivers license within 6 months of employment (free through in-house training program)
