Job Description
NEOGOV is seeking an Accountant III for the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services. The role involves reviewing and approving service requests, bank statements, and ensuring proper management of children's funds across counties.
Responsibilities
• Review and approve all service requests entered in MACWIS prior to the bookkeeper issuing a purchase order in MACWIS for services. This responsibility includes ensuring all policy requirements are met and the appropriate support documentation is provided
• Monthly review and approve bank statements and reconciliations for all counties within their assigned regions. * State office staff handles this duty where there are vacancies*
• Frequently monitor account ledgers and balances to ensure all children’s funds are accounted for in the county bank accounts
• Review and approve cash and donation logs
• Review and enter all shopping carts for their assigned regions. * Not active*
• Oversee the use of the State Procurement card for their assigned regions. *Not active*
• Verify and complete the annual verification for Social Security recipients in custody
• Develop and implement appropriate corrective action plans to address audit findings

• Have good communication skills
• Understand the importance of confidentiality in the payroll dept
• Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 4-5 years of experience and/or appropriate certification
• A bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related fields
• Experience in payroll and reconciling
