Position Summary : Responsible for performing wide range of repair and preventative maintenance tasks. The work orders include all plumbing systems and equipment at MVH. Plans and completes Preventative maintenance and completes other assigned work from computerized work order system. Ensures JCAHO requirements are completed. Repair and pm work could include fire sprinkler system, plumbing distribution, medical gas system, drain systems, various plumbing equipment, etc. Participates in department and craft meetings and uses correct safety work habits. Position Responsibilities: Maintenance • Performs routine and scheduled maintenance for equipment for building services and patient supporting equipment as assigned and in accordance with the Hospital schedule of Preventive Maintenance. • Installation and maintenance of hospital environmental and related systems and equipment according to standard practice of trade and safety regulations set up by provincial and federal legislation. • Responds to emergency system failures and makes adjustment to ensure a minimum disruption to service for patients and staff. • Ensures that all equipment purchased for Hospital systems meets Hospital and CSA standards. • Care of tools and judicious use of materials. • Receives work requisitions from departmental management or designate. • Starts up, shuts down and adjusts equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures. • Performs preventative or corrective maintenance tasks as assigned and within timelines. Identifies maintenance needs and performs proactive repairs before breakdown occurs. Installation • Inspects, installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings, and fixtures to maintain various hospital systems and services. • Plans installations and modifications and performs cost estimates to existing systems for minor to medium renovation/modification projects as they arise. • Performs inspection of all current hospital systems and recommends corrective actions to keep systems running. • Performs detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation. Informs appropriate supervisory or managerial personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies and takes appropriate action. Trades Literacy and Reporting/Recording • Studies blueprints and diagrams to ascertain layout, location, and specifications of times to be installed, when not deemed necessary by a qualified technician. • Estimates material requirements and submits requisition to departmental management or designate. • Reports any broken or defective tools or equipment to the departmental management or designate. • Keeps records for equipment, showing type, model number, and date of installation and extent of service. • Records all required readings on the daily log sheet where applicable. • Records time and materials expended on each work order. • Performs preventative or corrective maintenance tasks as assigned and within timelines. Identifies maintenance needs and performs proactive repairs before breakdown occurs. • Attends and participates in project designs, reviews, shutdowns, project meetings, final inspections and commissioning. Miscellaneous Tasks • Functions in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and hospital policies relative to employee health and safety. • Performs minor boiler water tests when On-Call" • Keeps working area in a clean and safe condition (e.g. lock-out/tag-out). • Adapt communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, volunteers and others within our health care community. • Demonstrate values and a commitment to foster a healthy, supportive work environment dedicated to delivering a high-quality care experience though compassion, innovation and respect. • Effectively apply organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload, to problem solve, and to adapt to frequent interruptions and change. • Abide by all SMGH policies and procedures, (i.e., Occupational Health & Safety Act, Public Hospitals Act,) position obligations, and perform work duties in accordance with SMGH's Code of Conduct. • Performs other duties as assigned. Position Requirements: • Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. • Successful completion of a government apprenticeship or equivalent on-the-job training as required. • Up to date with familiar plumbing codes and local ordinances. • Must have maintenance or construction working knowledge of Plumbing Systems, HVAC system, and plumbing equipment. • Successfully able to perform their function in accordance with prescribed standards that focuses on the priority of People Safety and the delivery of the highest standard of Quality Care. • Demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities necessary for proper and efficient performance of the essential duties of the position. Preferred Requirements: • Up to date knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. • Work experience with small hand tools, instruments, drain pipe equipment and associated plumbing equipment. • Ability to work on multiple tasks and to perform mathematical skills, read, writes reports and communicates effectively.
