Responsibilities Some positions have additional requirements General Function: The Mechanic will Education/Training/Experience: Minimum: High school graduate

General Function: The Mechanic will maintain district vehicles, diagnose malfunctions, and perform repairs in a satisfactory manner that will meet or exceed established standards for safe and reliable vehicle operation according to relevant legislation, regulations, and standards
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver License Class "B" (with a "P" and "S" endorsements) and adhere to requirements as outlined in #6.41.4 NMAC
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: Must be able to read mechanic manuals and vehicle parts instructions

Education/Training/Experience: Minimum: High school graduate or equivalent education, training and experience applicable to diesel bus or truck maintenance and repair
Five (5) years' experience as a certified general line mechanic or two (2) years as a school bus mechanic, heavy equipment, diesel and/or gas engine machine mechanic
Some positions have additional requirements as established by federal or state rules and regulations
Must be twenty-one years of age
Preferred: ASE certification

Must be a self-starter, have the ability to multi-task and move from one job to the next with minimum delay time
Ability to use good judgment and to demonstrate good decision-making skills
Must have the ability to perform minor cutting and welding repairs

Five (5) years' experience as a certified general line mechanic or two (2) years as a school bus mechanic, heavy equipment, diesel and/or gas engine machine mechanic
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: Must be able to read mechanic manuals and vehicle parts instructions
Diagnostic, electrical, hydraulic, air brake and AC skills are a must
Must attend trainings provided to upgrade and maintain skills
